From Ecommerce to Shibori

Nov 7, 2016 5:06:25 PM

Rob Jones has been a respected person in ecommerce for many years, starting his online career with the launch of Harvey Nichols' first ecommerce site back in 2005. Rob's extensive ecommerce career saw him being Head of Ecommerce at Astley Clarke, White Stuff and Anthropologie. Over these years, Rob’s passion for luxury and design began to focus on the art of Shibori.

The question often asked by Senior Ecommerce people is 'what is next?'. Rob now provides ecommerce consultancy expertise but has also started his own business - Romor Designs - to showcase his passion for Shibori. If, like us, you aren’t sure what this is, here’s how Rob explains it: “Shibori techniques, both ancient and modern, involve stitched, bound and clamped resist techniques to create a range of lampshades and other textiles working with indigo and natural dyes in a range of colours. The time and skill in creating these pieces really is astonishing".

As a very good friend of cranberry panda, we are keen to help promote Rob’s upcoming exhibition at Craft Central in Clerkenwell. We’ll let Rob explain what it’s all about...

“Our colour saturation exhibition demonstrates how colour can be applied across different disciplines with stunning effect. I have been busy working on a patchwork quilt of Shibori squares in every shade to demonstrate just how versatile this technique is with colour in textiles. This exhibition has opened up a whole world of opportunity to explore and experiment with colour in varying shades and depths”.

So, if you are around Farringdon during the week of Monday 7th to Sunday 13th, then pop in and see Rob and find out more; you won’t be disappointed. Rob will be joined by Isabella Lepri who creates hand thrown pottery. For this event, she'll be creating lampshades to support Rob’s amazing lampshades. Jessamy Harvey will also join them; she makes jewellery and specifically brooches that pair perfectly with Rob’s Shibori scarves.

If this doesn’t have Christmas gift written all over it then I don’t know what does.

We’ll see you there.
