Ah, LinkedIn! This isn’t the first time we’ve decided to focus our attention on updating your LinkedIn profile, but today we want to look at how you can start optimising your LinkedIn experience. How? By creating a profile that will see your job search strategy succeed!
LinkedIn is more than an online CV, and holds great possibilities which you can use to optimise your profile. Don’t expect a stagnant profile to get you any attention; you have to stand out, and have the right strategy. Here are our tips of the day…
Might sound a little extreme, but hear us out. You are not the only person on LinkedIn looking for a new opportunity…that’s a given. You have to make sure you blow the competition out of the water.
You know the kind of role you’d be qualified for, and perhaps even an industry you really want to work in. By narrowing down your interests (industry, company size and location) you will have a nice comprehensive list of potential avenues. Narrow it down as much as you can, choosing companies you would WANT to work with. Using LinkedIn for initial research and targeting who you want to notice you is a good start.
What else is LinkedIn for? You can find out lots of details you can use to your advantage, like what is happening in your industry right now or what the future trends will be. If you understand the current climate, you show you’re someone who could have interesting conversations.
Are you guilty of following groups, but never interacting or reading? If you are, it’s time to become the teacher’s pet of LinkedIn. Group contributions will boost your profile, reading the latest news and opinions will give you conversation starters and building you network will get you noticed.
Spend some time on your profile, and see how beneficial it can be!
