Welcome back to our mini-series reflecting on pay rises within ecommerce. If you missed part one you can catch it here.
For part two, we are going to pay some attention to people who have seen their salary decrease. Can we assume this is because of the company or is there a personal choice behind the pay cut? Another important factor is how likely pay rises will come your way depending on the seniority of your role. Do companies prioritise senior members of their team and would this affect staff retention?
In part one, we briefly spoke of the 27% of respondents who didn’t see a pay rise because of company budget. Should ecommerce superstars ride out the wave and let the company grow before they see the benefits?
Have you ever experienced a pay cut? If you have there is probably a mixture of feelings; ‘am I not doing enough’, ‘should I find a new role’ or ‘I’m in no position to find a new role, I’ll have to accept it.’
But what about our ecommerce respondents? Let’s have a peek…
4.2% saw a decrease in their salaries. Sad times? Not quite.
The good news is all levels of seniority have seen a growth in salary, with more people within these roles receiving a pay rise than those who did not. The biggest gap between those who received a pay rise and those who have remained the same is managers. Perhaps as more people start proving their worth after transitioning to mid-level management roles, companies want to keep them on board as they progress even further.
Ecommerce is an ever growing industry. As such, can ecommerce professionals always expect their desired salaries or is patience a virtue?
47.9% of our respondents expect to see growth in all aspects of their company, while a further 12.5% believe there will be growth specifically in the Ecommerce division. Does this mean other aspects of the business will see priority in terms of the budget? Yet if growth is expected, the future prospects in terms of salary can only get better. Below you can see how our respondents see their salaries changing for the remainder of 2016…
Whether our respondents saw a pay rise or not, it’s good to see that a high number believe they will see an increase. A tiny fraction expects a decrease but who’s to say that will happen? That’s the beauty of the wonderful, fast paced world of ecommerce.
