#PandaPounds: Ecommerce Job Benefits in 2016

Written by Chris Cox | Oct 4, 2016 1:49:06 PM

Salary is always important when considering a job offer, or thinking about moving roles. In fact, 46% feel salary is important when moving to a new role while 50% feel it is absolutely essential. That’s a very significant amount of our 2016 Ecommerce Salary Surveyrespondents.

However, should the benefits be considered as part of the overall package too? We are going to look at how ecommerce superstars consider benefits and what employers are offering to attract, or retain, their talent.

How important are work benefits?

We asked this question to our salary survey respondents, particularly focussing on how important benefits are when leaving a role to consider new opportunities. Here’s what they had to say…

Monetary vs Non-monetary Benefits

As we can see, the same amount of respondents believes both monetary benefits and non-monetary benefits are important. However, it’s clear that monetary benefits are slightly more favoured as more respondents consider non-monetary benefits as unimportant or they are simply neutral towards the subject.

It is important to consider all benefit packages when looking for a new role, be it monetary or not. For example, a personal performance bonus is great while free lunch or gym subsidiary, for example, also saves money you would otherwise spend yourself. Always consider what lovely extras would be most beneficial to you!

What benefits are ecommerce professionals receiving in 2016?

Now that we’ve delved into how ecommerce professionals feel about benefits in their careers, let’s see what our respondents have been receiving this year. Note that our respondents had multiple choices for this section of our survey.

  • Also topping the list of benefits received in 2015, contributory pension is out in front in 2016 with 42% of our respondents receiving this within their role.
  • In second place is a company laptop, a new entry to the top 5 benefits received with 41% specifying this as a benefit of their role.
  • More than 25 days holiday remains in the top 5, with 31% of our respondents receiving this benefit.
  • Another benefit refusing to budge from our top 5 (though down one place from 2015) is private medical insurance, with 30% of our respondents receiving this.
  • Rounding off our top 5 and a new entry for 2016 is performance related bonus, with 28% receiving this as a benefit.

That is two new entries to the top 5 benefits received, with discretionary bonus and product/services discount slipping since 2015. Of course these benefits are still being received by our respondents, along with a few others. Beer fridge anyone? How about a lovely season ticket loan to improve the sentiments toward your commute?

In 2016 there are many ways employers can show their appreciation to their staff…even the smallest of things can make a difference. What was surprising, however, was to see 9% of our respondents do not receive any benefits at all!
