Employees working within ecommerce management, online trading & online merchandising have seen lots of changes in the last 12 months. New trends, new technology and new competitors means it’s tougher than ever to stay ahead of the game. How does this impact their careers and sentiments towards the industry?
It’s day two of our employee insights, and we will be looking at our ecommerce management specialism (which covers ecommerce assistants to directors, online traders and online merchandisers.) What will we discover today?
Does the constantly changing ecommerce landscape make it hard for ecommerce management professionals to strike that work-life balance?
For an in depth focus on this topic across the whole industry, check out our blog ‘#PandaPounds 2019: Overtime in ecommerce’. For now, let’s see how much overtime people are doing within ecommerce management, online trading and online merchandising teams.
There have been a few changes from 2018 when it comes to overtime in ecommerce management. Last year, 12% told us they did a few minutes here and there which has increased to 19% this year. 22% complete 2-3 hours of overtime this year, down from 26% in 2018.
So, it seems there are more people within this ecommerce specialism who are edging towards doing less overtime. The percentage of those who do 3-5 hours of overtime per week remains the same, while 9% said ‘other’. Answers from these respondents include ‘as long as is needed’, ’10-20 hours’ and ’15 hours plus.'
Continuing from our big focus on the gender debate in ecommerce last year, has anything changed in 2019?
51% of respondents within this specialism are male, while 47% are female (2% preferred not to say.) Last year, the split was 54% male vs 46% female, so there has been only a slight shift in the balance. Looking at the industry overall, we can see the figures are 51% male, 48% female and 1% who preferred not to say. So, the gender split within the ecommerce specialism isn’t too different from the figures for the industry overall.
