eCommerce News: Apple's shift to online proves to be a success!

In our latest search for eCommerce gossip, we were impressed by the recent online sales statistics from Apple! The brand has traditionally been in-store-led, though the pandemic of course meant a shift to online had to be done sooner rather than later. How did they tackle this shift?

Apple's online retail success

In the last two years, Apple's online sales have increased by a huge 97%. This is a significant milestone for the company, putting them behind Amazon and JD as the third largest online retailer in the US.

So, what did Apple get right?

They didn't simply make the move online to make up for the lack of bricks and mortar sales. They prioritised experience for the customers so it immediately created an appeal while giving the customers confidence to buy. Simply put, they knew exactly what their customers wanted and delivered it.

In particular, Apple did a great job in replicating the in-store experience. If you've ever been inside an Apple store, it's not long before you know where to turn. Furthermore, the 'geniuses' are always on hand to help. A simple website design change allowed online customers to be taken exactly where they needed to be right away.

Shopping with ease is what everyone wants in this day and age. Apple allowed this. An added bonus in Apple's leveraging of eCommerce is the use of Apple cards. Furthermore, transactional benefits are always a plus. Customers want to pay for their product and be done with it. Apple ensured that there would be no foreign transaction fees. So, they were able to attract customers from around the globe.

The future is eCommerce

It's great to see success stories like this one. Ultimately, simplicity can get online brands very far. Looking for more news from the world of online retail? Keep an eye on our blog for all of the latest eCommerce industry news
