Why Hybrid Working in eCommerce Is the Preferred Choice

Jul 8, 2025 11:28:05 AM

The world of work has changed, and eCommerce teams have made their preferences clear...flexibility is no longer a perk, it’s a priority.

According to our 2025 eCommerce salary survey, 69% of respondents say they perform best in a hybrid working model, while 28% prefer to work fully remotely. Only a small percentage favour fully office-based roles, making one thing very clear: rigid, five-days-in-the-office setups are quickly falling out of favour.

But it’s not just employees who are on board - 82% of management also say they prefer their teams to work in a hybrid capacity. Why? It offers the best of both worlds: the collaboration and creative spark of in-person meetings, combined with the focus and flexibility of remote work. For leaders, it means better productivity and stronger engagement.

When it comes to attracting talent, flexibility could make or break your hiring efforts. A huge 78% of professionals told us that remote work capabilities are a must-have when considering a new role. That means job ads that ignore flexible working, even if it’s just a couple of days from home, may struggle to attract the right people.

Why is hybrid working so popular?

  • Work-life balance: Commuting five days a week simply doesn’t appeal anymore. Hybrid models give people time back without losing connection with their teams.
  • Better focus at home: Some tasks need quiet, uninterrupted time — hybrid allows for deep work days.
  • Collaboration boost: Face-to-face days are perfect for brainstorming, planning and team bonding.
  • Talent retention: Flexibility keeps employees happier and more likely to stay long term.
  • Wider talent pool: Hiring is no longer limited to candidates within commuting distance.
  • Healthier culture: Hybrid gives people the space to manage personal needs and wellbeing, reducing burnout.

A final word for hiring teams

If you're still on the fence about offering hybrid roles, it’s time to reconsider. The demand is clear, and the benefits are mutual. Offering flexible working not only boosts retention, it widens your talent pool and ensures you’re meeting modern expectations.
