The most creative job hunt tactics: We pick our favourites!

The perfect CV, a great interview and a positive attitude can land you your dream job. But there are some people out there who believe that, that just isn’t enough... and so they seek out the most creative job hunt tactics. They needed to soar above their fellow job seekers, and grab that role for themselves. We had a quick look for great stories, and thought we’d share some of our findings!

3 of the most creative job hunt tactics we've seen

1. The paid search genius

So when you decide it’s time for a new job, the strategy of your hunt begins. For Alec Goldstein, a senior copywriter, the strategy went beyond a CV rewrite. Instead, he picked the names of five top creative directors and bid on their names on Google Adwords. As the sole bidder on these names, Alec spent a grand total of $6 on his job search campaign. All he needed was for these directors to Google themselves…

Lo and behold, they did! “Hello (name of director here). Googling yourself is fun, but hiring me is more fun.” The ad linked to his website, and four of the directors offered him an interview, with two going on to offer him the job. A very clever and unique use of paid search

2. A Snapchat CV

After an exhausting job search, one man decided to break the mould when applying for a ‘community support specialist’ role at Snapchat. While remaining firmly tongue in cheek, Elski Felson’s Snapchat story application was still an interesting breakdown of the CV, and one that captured the attention of Snapchat users.

Using the very social media tool he wanted to work with, and demonstrating his fun and creative approach, was a great way of spreading his enthusiasm for a job. He might not have landed the role but he received plenty of positive attention, and we enjoyed it enough to include the story in our list. Watch it here!

3. Building your career foundations…with Lego

One graphics & digital design hero, Leah Bowman, wanted to begin her career in the creative field. Internships are a competitive market, so she needed to do something that really stood out.

She certainly did just that, as she used Lego’s ‘Digital Designer’ tool to create a physical Lego version of herself. She then sent this out with a creative CV, and instructions to build the perfect intern. Not content with the Lego Leah, one company offered the real Leah an internship (and later a job!). Leah made sure the company knew she really was, quite literally, the missing piece in the puzzle.

Remember: always use your skills to your advantage

Your skills on paper are great, but using them to create something truly unique is an excellent way to attract the attention of employers. If you can show exactly what ideas you can think up in a job search, who knows what you can achieve in the perfect role?
