Tweet, Tweet: Finding opportunities on Twitter

Aug 26, 2015 6:10:14 PM

Social Media…it’s all around us! Today, we want to look at Twitter and how it can be used in the career path. Many people use it for professional endeavours; so that’s not exclusive toLinkedIn.

It’s a way to share insights, current trends and promote in a more relaxed way perhaps. Twitter has also become a place where people look for new opportunities in their careers. But, how effective is this platform for job seekers.

You found your job on Twitter?

Not a silly question at all! Many companies now promote their open roles on the social media channel, so it’s almost like a bulletin board of short job descriptions. They just need to be enticing enough to get potential candidates to click through.

Here at cranberry panda, we too have our very own Ecommerce Jobs UK feed. There is nothing better than sharing great opportunities with potential ecommerce heroes. We can even let you in on a little secret…people have applied for our roles after seeing them on Twitter! So, good roles are not wasted on Twitter…it could be the best opportunity in 140 characters ever!

How should I start my search?

Find Twitter feeds with content relevant to you. Simply searching #Jobs will bring to an endless page of jobs, spread across so many industries. Looking at the feed at the moment, we went from ‘Lab Technician’ to a ‘Gallery Tour Guide’ in one tweet!

  • Narrow down the displayed tweets by location.
  • Choose your industry, be it Online Marketing or Ecommerce merchandising
  • Find a selection of accounts which deal with these roles, and keep an eye on them! Which one is engaging you more? Should they be the company you want to find out more about? Probably! If you like the voice and feel from the tweets, chances are it will be a good fit.
  • Don’t be a stranger. Engage with the tweet, and contact the company recruiting. Showing your approaching the job hunt differently is a good way to show initiative.

How else should I approach the Twitter search?

You too can advertise yourself! You are seeking a new opportunity and being proactive across all channels to get yourself noticed. That is a brilliant thing!

  • Join some industry groups and lists. Being engaged with like-minded people and being open about your hopes for a perfect role will be embraced. There just might be an opening near you, and the recruiter has seen your tweets!
  • How’s your bio looking? State what you’re looking for, and you’ll be more approachable for potential recruiters whose feed you just followed.
  • Be yourself. Your Twitter feed can also show your hobbies and personality, which allows a recruiter to have more than just a job to talk about. Once again, it makes you more approachable.

Compliment your LinkedIn profile with your Twitter feed. Twitter can provide you a greater outreach, and guide recruiters to see your more established career highlights. 140 characters won’t get in all that ecommerce goodness after all!

Why not try approaching the Twitter job world today?

Where better to start than our very own jobs feed, right here!
