When looking at 2019, ecommerce career goals have shifted slightly, though career progression remains the number one goal for our respondents. Securing a pay rise and improving work-life balance have seen an increase, while learning new skills, finding a new role and building personal brand all saw a decrease in responses.

There are a few points to take from this and apply to your digital recruitment strategy...

  • Career progression - As we can see, this is the number one goal for ecommerce professionals for two years now. How transparent are you with candidates about how they can grow within your company? Had you planned where this role could go when it first opened or did you get an advert out straight away? With career progression comes security...this is what potential employees want in return for their loyalty to your business!
  • Internal development - While learning new skills might fall under progression, it is slightly different. In this fast-paced industry, the most dynamic of employees will always want to learn new things. Are you offering training and development or is it an afterthought? 
  • Salary - As outlined in our blog on ecommerce staff retention, salary is the number one essential for ecommerce professionals. Are salary reviews common in your business? If so, outline this in the company information - job seekers will be happy to see it!
