#PandaPounds: Highlights from the ecommerce industry in 2017

Our 2017 ecommerce salary survey and insights report has revealed a wealth of highlights from the ecommerce industry in 2017.

As 2017 draws to a close, and we prepare the 2018 edition of our salary survey, we have decided to take a look back at some of these highlights. This will be a snapshot of key findings, but you can find more on our #PandaPounds blog page or download a free copy of the report.

Ecommerce salaries increase in 2017

How could we not begin with the wonderful increase of ecommerce salaries in 2017? Now that’s a big ecommerce industry highlight for 2017!

The average ecommerce in 2017 is £55,763, which is an increase of £1,939 from 2016. It was amazing to hear that 71% of our respondents received an increase in their salaries, while 62% expected to see an increase at some point in 2017, early 2018.

The ecommerce job market is growing – hooray!

It’s great to see that our respondents were positive that the ecommerce job market would grow in 2017!

There were a few highlights to be found when we asked our respondents about team growth and job growth. 46% believed that their companies would grow in all areas this year, which includes the ecommerce function. Furthermore, 14% predicted that there would be growth in the ecommerce function only, which is great news!

How long should the ecommerce recruitment process take?

It’s always interesting to see exactly what ecommerce professionals think about the recruitment process. This year, there was a significant increase in candidates expecting a recruitment process that lasted 4 weeks, with 39% of our respondents expecting this. This is a 12% increase from 2016, where most respondents expected the process to take 6 weeks.

Being valued and respected remained the top essential in a role

For the third year running, being valued and respected was the top essential in an ecommerce role. It’s clear to see that as ecommerce has grown, people within the industry want to feel like their role is really contributing to the business.

Making up the rest of the top 5 was opportunities to progress, salary, people and company culture.

Our ecommerce specialisms have all seen positive salary changes

At cranberry panda, we help our clients find candidates within many ecommerce specialisms. This year, we explored the salary changes some of these specialisms have seen. Here are the big highlights…

  • Ecommerce (Ecommerce Management, Online Trading, Online Merchandising, Product Management and Project Management) – An impressive 73% of our respondents within this specialism received a pay rise in 2017. Amazing news!
  • Digital Marketing – 67% of Digital Marketers’ salaries increased in 2017, which is a good increase from 2016.
  • Web Analytics – It has been a great year for those within the Web Analytics specialism – 80% have seen an increase in their salary.
  • Digital Design – 64% of our Digital Design respondents received a pay rise in 2017, another positive uplift for the year.
