eCommerce Recruitment - Insights from eCommerce Management employees

Aug 13, 2024 12:51:48 PM

The eCommerce landscape is continually evolving, and our 2024 eCommerce salary survey has all the stats to prove it! For talent attraction and retention, employers must follow key trends in order to have recruitment success.

We have been focusing on different departments within an eCommerce business, from digital marketing to digital design. Today, we're discussing all things eCommerce management. This encompasses broader eCommerce roles, such as eCommerce executive or manager, and more specialised verticals like eCommerce merchandising.

eCommerce management salaries - have they increased?

In our overall salary survey results, 61% saw an increase in their salary. When taking the data from the eCommerce management respondents, 67% received a pay rise. It's a good sign that people in these roles see their salaries aligning with the industry average.

However, when we asked respondents to rank their salary satisfaction out of ten, the eCommerce management segment gave a score of 5.6/10. Despite the positive trends in salary growth, this suggests that many in the industry feel their compensation doesn't fully reflect their contributions and responsibilities.

For employers, this highlights an important opportunity to reassess compensation strategies. Conducting regular compensation planning can improve employee morale and enhance retention rates.

eCommerce team growth

It's time to find out how teams have developed in the last 12 months. With continued retail growth, are businesses investing in their teams? 43% of eCommerce management respondents shared that their team has grown, while 38% said the number of people in the team remained the same. That means 19% shared that their team had shrunk.

For companies looking to hire, these insights suggest that adaptability and a keen eye on market changes are crucial. Growing teams need support systems to integrate new members, while stable or shrinking teams might focus on optimisation and efficiency. Tailoring talent attraction and retention strategies to these dynamics can position you more competitively in the eCommerce landscape.

Diversity & inclusion in eCommerce management

We recently covered the 2024 diversity & inclusion insights from the eCommerce industry. So, let's see what eCommerce management professionals think about this important discussion.

When asked to rank the diversity of their workforce, they shared an average score of 6.2/10. From our respondents overall, the average rank was 5.8/10. So, this is a positive uplift from the overall average demonstrated within eCommerce management teams. It should always be an ongoing conversation, ensuring that teams (and candidates) feel valued and represented at every turn.

Mental health & well-being

Another important focus point is the happiness and well-being of employees. Are eCommerce management professionals feeling good about their role and workload?

At the moment, a huge 82% believe they perform best when working in a hybrid capacity, while the remaining 11% are happiest working remotely. That leaves 7% who prefer being in the office. It seems that these respondents value the presence of their teams, improving collaboration and communication. However, they still like the flexibility that remote working offers.

We also asked the respondents to rank their workload out of ten. The eCommerce management segment gave an average score of 7.7/10, with 10 being a 'heavy workload'. This score is leaning towards the heavier side. There needs to be a balancing act and if employees struggle with this, management needs to reach out to avoid burnout among the team.. Individuals who did rank their workload higher shared that it is responsible for increased anxiety, frustration and decreasing career motivation.
