Within eCommerce recruitment, our eCommerce salary survey offers a myriad of insights. With Q4 approaching, we reflect on the biggest insights of 2022.

From salary increases to work-life balance across many eCommerce specialisms, a lot has happened! It will be important to use these to look ahead to 2023 - what can you do to attract the top talent and how do you keep them? We are sure this eCommerce recruitment roundup will help!

eCommerce salaries increased - and that's more important than ever!

If you're in the UK, the current news around the cost of living crisis is surely on your mind. This is why people will be looking towards salaries as a big dependent in their job search. In our 2022 salary survey, it was revealed that the industry-wide average salary has increased since 2020. Standing at £63,571, it was positive news. This will absolutely need to be taken into account with current affairs playing on every working person's mind!

Is work-life balance achievable across the industry?

At Cranberry Panda, we work across multiple eCommerce job specialisms. So, we like to really delve into the details of each one. One topic that was important to us is work-life balance - was it universally achievable or do some departments struggle?

As we can see, there are a few specialisms that are on the right track. It is interesting to note that digital marketing and digital design respondents ranked their work-life balance satisfaction much lower. It is worth checking in with all departments, making sure the entire company is happy with its workload. It is what good company culture is all about!

Offer career progression or wave goodbye to top talent

Progression has always been high on the priority list in every edition of our salary survey report. However, it claimed the top spot for the first time in 2022. The stalling of careers for so many people during the pandemic has struck fear in professionals across every industry. They do not want that to happen again. So, make sure progression conversations are happening with your existing team. Furthermore, any job advertisement should clearly state that a progression plan is a priority for potential employees.

The future is hybrid

With eCommerce being such a digitally focused industry, working remotely was always a capability. Of course, it wasn't the norm. A culture of trust, and allowing digital teams autonomy, is a valuable thing. However, there are management teams that still believe creativity is lost when employees are not collaborating in person every day.

In 2022, 42% of respondents followed a hybrid working model. 51% are still fully remote - so, employees will want to have this as a benefit. Showing trust is a powerful thing when it comes to talent attraction and retention.
